Accessible volleyball team Sitting Bucks win Grand Prix for third year in a row

Sitting Bucks Volleyball Club – sponsored by Guidant Global – has won the England Sitting Volleyball championship for the third year in a row following their recent success in the Cup competition for the second year.  

Sitting Volleyball is volleyball where the court is smaller, the net is closer to the ground, and rules have been slightly adapted, making it suitable for players both with and without disabilities. The premium competition in England is the Sitting Volleyball Grand Prix. 

A battle with close rivals South Hants resulted in a 3-1 outcome; this included a stirring come-back on the third set having been 5-15 down, winning 25-22. All 8 players in the squad contributed fully with Kev Tann being awarded Most Valuable Player. 

This builds on the club’s first foray into European competition in February when they played in the Bronze League in Slovenia. Led by club manager and founder Steve Smith and assisted by captain Mike Knight, Sitting Bucks have grown from a start-up development club in late 2018 to being the most dominant club in English Sitting Volleyball.  

Sitting Volleyball is an inclusive sport where teams have players with and without disabilities; Sitting Bucks have four members who have lost limbs and represent Great Britain in the Men’s and Women’s teams. 

 In 2024, the Club gained Guidant Global as headline sponsor and the relationship is starting to blossom due to Guidant Global’s strong focus on ED&I. Sitting Bucks are committed to growing the sport within the disabled community and welcome Guidant Global’s support in being able to publicize this more widely.
