A high-profile contact-tracing programme

In May 2020, the client had the opportunity to bid for a project to run the COVID-19 contact-tracing program for a US state.

Guidant supported a contact-tracing hiring drive, providing payrolling, co-sourcing, vetting, onboarding and reporting support.
The Challenge

Delivering at speed while project requirements changed rapidly.

Following the governor’s public announcement of the partnership with the US government contractor on 1 May, the team had to move extremely quickly to get the first cohort of workers ready by 6 May. This needed to be achieved during the early stages of the pandemic, when remote onboarding was not yet the norm.

01
Fast public launch

The project moved quickly after the governor’s public announcement, creating an urgent need to prepare workers within days.

02
Remote onboarding

Workers needed to be onboarded remotely at the beginning of the pandemic, when this approach was not yet standard practice.

03
Increased hiring volume

Initial worker numbers increased significantly as demand for the project spiked, with the number of people due to be payrolled almost quadrupling.

04
Changing project requirements

The process for sourcing suitable candidates had to be refined and fine-tuned throughout the course of the project.

05
Public and media scrutiny

Real-time reporting and visibility were essential because the project came under extreme public and media scrutiny.

The Solution

A flexible payrolling and co-sourcing collaboration built around urgent delivery.

Following a successful bid, Guidant worked with a trusted affiliate to deliver the initial payrolling of 300 individuals for COVID-19 contact tracing. As the scope changed, the support became a co-sourcing collaboration, combining resourcing expertise, candidate networks and contacts provided by the state.

Results

The team delivered against urgent timelines while scaling support as demand increased.

The first cohort of workers was ready by 6 May, despite the short timeframe and the need for complete remote onboarding. As project requirements increased, Guidant was tasked with co-sourcing and onboarding 500 people within the first two weeks, then continued to co-source and onboard an additional 400 workers for a further three months.
